25 Best Face Creams In India

Hi guys!

Today I’m going to be dropping some intel on one of the most basic item in our skincare: face cream. The most basic yet necessary step, face cream is always a part of CTM (Cleanse, Tone, Moisturise) regime. Over the past 10 years, I’ve had the fortune of also being gifted products from some beauty brands as well. Let’s dive into some of the best face creams in India that cater to dry skin, oily skin and some of the best face creams for glowing skin. I’ve also added lists of affordable creams and famous French pharmacy creams available in India too.

What Is The Difference Between Face Creams & Moisturisers?

I often hear these two terms synonymously. However, there is a difference between face creams & moisturisers. Both creams & moisturisers have a purpose which is to moisturise skin. However, face creams or any product labelled ‘cream’ are heavier on oil than oil content whereas moisturiser, face or body moisturiser has higher water content and gets absorbed easily.

Day Creams & Night Creams: What’s The Difference?

Growing up in India in the 90s, there was no such concept of a day cream or a night cream. A face cream was just that, a face cream. As the beauty industry became bigger globally, came two concepts: day creams and night creams. In essence, a day cream usually has moisturising ingredients along with SPF to help protect you against external aggravators like sun damage, pollution etc. A night cream is heavier in texture and has active ingredients (from chemical exfoliants to retinol and vitamin c) which helps replenish and repair your skin overnight.

Best Face Creams In India

Now that we have this out of the way, let’s get into some of the best face creams available in India. Please remember, I’ve used many of these and seen/heard these being used by influencers, beauty writers and dermatologists.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream, Rs 750

Best Face Creams In India

I love a humectant based cream and I think it can be used or layered with another cream in harsher weather. After using  Neutrogena Hydro Boost Serum this summer, I bought the Hydro Boost Gel Cream recently. This cream is considered a dupe for Tatcha Water Cream (which is not available in India and costs a bomb) and Clinique Moisture Surge 72-hr Auto-Replenishing Hydrator which costs Rs 2,550 in India. Its key ingredient hyaluronic acid, a humectant produced by our own bodies which deplete with age. Hyaluronic acid along with other ingredients helps attract moisture & seal it too, preventing transepidermal water loss, commonly known as 𝐓𝐄𝐖𝐋. It also has dimethicone (commonly found in primers) which reduces the appearances of pores upon application.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream, Rs 995

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream is a lightweight formula and a great face cream for oily skin since it’s a non-greasy formula. Many of the users find the smell delectable while some think it’s similar to Pond’s Cold Cream. Loved by many, it has Vitamin E, a basic but essential ingredient that is also an antioxidant, along with hyaluronic acid & raspberry seed oil.

SebaMed Moisturising Cream, Rs 499

SebaMed Moisturising Cream is a tube-based packaging and will probably not make it to your Instagram flatlay. An unsung hero for my friends and colleagues, SebaMed Moisturising Cream sells like hotcakes at local pharmacies in India. Non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic, this face cream is widely used by those of us with sensitive skin and acne-prone skin. Coming to ingredients, it’s got Vitamin E (antioxidant & repairs damage), glycerin (humectant i.e. attracts moisture), & citric acid amongst others. However, it is not fragrance-free.

Dr. Reddy Venusia Max Cream, Rs 409

Speaking of another face cream that is not known for its looks but very high on my list is Venusia Max Cream By Dr. Reddy. I started using this cream when La Roche Posay’s creams steadily became unavailable both offline and online. It’s a relatively thick cream with glycerin, shea butter, mango seed butter, aloe butter and zinc oxide (a physical sunscreen). It can be used on any part of the body so you don’t need to have multiple creams if you’re all about basic skincare like me.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream, Rs 2550

I absolutely love Kiehl’s, I think they have pricey but great products that last you a long time. Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream is not light, not heavy: it’s just right. A little swipe of this cream has squalene & glacial glycoprotein that help keeps your skin moisturised all day. You can check out Best Kiehl’s Skincare Products here.

Olay Total Effects 7 in 1 Lightweight Anti Ageing Moisturizer Cream SPF 15, Rs 859

Hmm. So, my mom has used Olay from as long as I can remember. When I was a little girl, the smell of 1-2 drops of Oil Of Olay (not Olay Total Effects) made me so happy because I was obsessed with my mom. Later, Olay Total Effects became synonymous with face creams for ageing skin. Ingredients include Vitamin B3, B5, C, E and green tea along with SPF 15.

Nivea Cream, Rs 249 & Eucerin, Rs 816

Need I say more? This blue box has been in many of our households. In the market since 1911, it was one of the first creams to be able to successfully combining water and oil into a stable compound. It’s an ultra-thick face cream but can be freely applied on any part of your body. It has taken care of my driest lips, knees & feet amongst others. The parent brand also launched Eucerin with similar ingredients which is also a good face cream.

Lakme Absolute Hydro Pro Gel Creme, Rs 600

I do remember using a variant of Lakme Absolute Hydro Pro Gel Cream but as of now, to me, it seems like a dupe of Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream or Clinique Moisture Surge 72-hr Cream. Infused with hyaluronic acid (natural ingredient that attracts & binds moisture), ad glycerin, it’s an affordable day cream and is loved by those of us who hate greasy face creams.

Clinique Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator, Rs 2700

Despite it being an expensive face cream, Clinique Moisture Surge has many loyal fans who have dry skin, acne-prone skin or even oily skin. In terms of ingredients, it’s the same: aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, dimethicone (explained above), urea extracts (humectant) & green tea extracts amongst others.

Cetaphil Moisturising Cream, Rs 765

A staple in many of our beauty cabinets, Cetaphil Moisturising Cream is pretty useful for dry, flaky skin. When I researched the label, which was full of unpronounceable words, it has a mix of humectants, emollients & occlusives such as sweet almond oil & vitamin E.

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Sensitive Cream, Rs 1807 & La Roche-Posay Effaclar H Compensating Moisturizer, Rs 1494

La Roche Posay is a French skincare brand which I was introduced you, through PR samples by 2014. I’ve repurchased it a few times but soon after, it got difficult to find it. You can order it online on a few websites and also when you travel abroad. La Roche-Posay Toleriane Sensitive Cream is made with niacinamide, ceramides (both very underrated yet solid ingredients) along with prebiotics for sensitive skin. It’s also suitable for babies (above 3M). La Roche-Posay Effaclar H Compensating Moisturizer is another gem product with shea butter, thermal spring water to soothe oily, acne-prone skin.

Avene Day Protector UV EX SPF30 PA+++ Cream, Rs 1450

Fragrance-free, alcohol-free formulation, Avene is a favourite brand amongst dermatologists, especially for irritated, inflamed or acne-prone skin. Apart from thermal spring water, it has antioxidants and SPF 30.

Bioderma Atoderm Crème Ultra-Nourishing Cream, Rs 1500 & Bioderma Sebium Hydra, Rs 1150

I’ve seen Bioderma’s Atoderma & Bioderma ranges seen & loved widely by people, influencers and beauty influencers. Both these creams have thermal spring water, thermal spring water and occlusives that nourish skin.

I personally think L’Oreal Revitalift range is really good and affordable but Skin Perfect 30+ Anti-Fine Lines is an affordable face cream with vitamin B, E and procollagen.

The Face Shop Rice & Ceramide Moisturizing Face Cream, Rs 920

One of the most popular K-beauty brands in India, The Face Shop Rice & Ceramide Face Cream is one of the few creams with rice, rice bran oil and ceramides. It is very lightweight in texture but a little goes a long way. It may not suit acne-prone skin according to some reviews on e-commerce websites.

Kama Ayurveda Rejuvenating Night Cream, Rs 2350

With the goodness of saffron, Indian madder, liquorice & vetiver, Kama Ayurveda’s Rejuvenating Night Cream is a rich and thick moisturising formula that promises to reduce fine lines, brightens skin & promotes cell growth. If you are looking for an extra rich night cream, look no further than this.

Forest Essentials Advanced Eternal Youth Formula, Rs 4200

Made with the most effective and precious Ayurvedic ingredients, including sweet Almond Oil, fermented Litchi juice and Date extracts which are traditionally known to revitalize the skin. Use this cream to moisturise and tone skin. It’s paraben-free and improves collagen production to restore the skin’s elasticity.

Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre, Rs 2250

A French pharmacy favourite, Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre Face Cream is a cult favourite that is now available in India.

Egyptian Magic All Purpose Skin Cream, Rs 3300

Best Face Creams In India

Not that easy to find in India, it is currently available at Beauty Source India and Nykaa. If I take it by face value, it only has 6 ingredients: olive oil, beeswax (emollient), honey, royal jelly, bee propolis. As a day cream: take a dab and pat it onto your skin. A little is more than enough. Unlike your gel-based formulas, this is quite creamy in consistency so it may feel a bit sticky on humid days in India. As a night cream: apply a good amount on face and neck (like all other serums) and sleep on it. Wake up with supple, moisturised skin.

Decleor Aromessence Neroli Amara, Rs 3600

Best Face Creams In India

A very heavy formula with neroli, basil, chamomile, Tonka beans, beeswax, avocado and hazelnut. Ideal for winters and really dry skin.
